Keep a Warm and Safe Fireplace
10/28/2019 (Permalink)
As cooler air roles into South Georgia, many people will start cranking up the heat or starting a fire in their fireplace. A fireplace can be a unique feature adding lots of character and charm to a South Georgia home. Fireplaces can also pose a danger if not maintained and used properly.
Maintain a safe and warm fireplace by having your chimney swept and practicing fire safety.
Sweeping your chimney should occur yearly. It is best to get a professional to sweep your chimney to ensure the best results. Having your chimney swept clears the chimney of debris that can build up and catch fire over time if not cleared. Chimney sweepers also look for hazardous cracks that can cause a fire to start inside the chimney.
Chimneys should be only lit by an adult and never left unattended. The glass or screen door should always be closed when not interacting with the fire to prevent sparks from escaping into the home. Another way to remain safe is to make sure the fire is out before going to bed.
Enjoy a warm and safe fireplace.
